National Health Goals

  • Reduction of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) to 32 per 1000 live births by 2017
  • Reduction of Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) to 123 per 100,000 live births by 2017
  • Reduction of Total Fertility Rate (TFR) to 2.1 by 2017
  • Prevention and reduction of under-nutrition in children under 3 years to half of NFHS-3 (2005-2006) levels 27 per cent by 2017
  • Prevention and reduction of anemia among women aged 15-49 years to 28 percent by end of 2017
  • Raising child sex ratio in the 0-6 years age group from 914 to 950
  • Prevention and reduction of burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases (including mental illness) and injuries
  • Reduction of poor household’s out-of-pocket expenditure to 1.87 percent of GDP by the end of 2017
  • Reduce Tuberculosis annual incidence and mortality by half by the end of 2017
  • Reduce Leprosy prevalence to <1/10,000 population and incidence to zero in all districts by the end of 2017
  • Annual malaria incidence of <1/1,000 by the end of 2017
  • Microfilaria prevalence <1 percent in all districts by the end of 2017
  • Case fatality rate of Dengue <1 percent by the end of 2017
  • Containment of Chikungunya outbreaks by the end of 2017
  • Reduction in Japanese Encephalitis mortality by 30 percent by the end of 2017
  • Elimination of Kala-azar by 2015, that is <1 case per 10,000 population in all blocks
  • Reduce new infections of HIV/AIDS to zero and provide comprehensive care, support and treatment services to all who require it

About IAPSM

The Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine, is a National level Professional body in the field of Community Medicine/Public health. It is founded in 1974. It is a "not for profit" organization of specialists Preventive & Social Medicine/ Community Medicine/Public Health.

Members of IAPSM are specialists in Preventive & Social Medicine, Community Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Management, Health Promotion, and Family Medicine. It has 4200+ members from across the India serving in Medical Colleges, National & state Government health departments, various health institutes working in the field of research, training, epidemiology, surveillance etc. Also, many of its members are working as experts in International development agencies, NGOs or working as freelance public health consultants.

It is formally registered (No. S/14240) under Society Act XXI 1860 on 13th February 1984 in the office of Registrar of Society, New Delhi.

IAPSM is dedicated to the promotion of public health by bringing its members' expertise to the development of health policies, an advocate for Medical education, Health Research, Health care and Health Programs and providing a forum for the regular exchange of views & information.

IAPSM is an important stakeholder in Health care services, Medical Education and Public Health/Community Medicine. The IAPSM effectively facilitate creation of evidence based Policy and planning by the Administrators and Public Representatives. IAPSM also contribute in promotion of people’s health through extending technical support like capacity building, monitoring and evaluation of health services/programs, epidemiological and health system research etc.

Donations are of course, always welcome, and always needed. Donations help us to plan various community health related activities, like organizing Awareness programs and materials, community health interventions, capacity building of the health professionals or generating evidences for health advocacy, policy, planning etc.

We are always interested in approaches from companies, Institutes, donor agencies, developmental partners, o sponsor us. Such sponsorship can take many different forms. Activities of IAPSM include academic activities like conferences, workshops, seminar, offering courses; research, technical support and community interventions project on various community health problems, Health system and services independently as well as in collaboration with central & state government health authorities, developmental & international agencies, non government agencies, CSR units of Industries.
