“ Sarve bhavantu sukhinah, sarve santu niramayah”is a Sanskrit prayer for universal peace, health, and well-being.

We pray that every living being in the world be happy and free from pain.

So this is not a story I am telling ,but this is an experience that I gained a few days back in my apartment , when  one of my neighbour approached me at 8’0 clock in the morning with tears in her eyes and grief on her face. I asked nothing but accompanied her to , where her mother-in-law , a  seventy years  old female and suffering from terminal illness , on chemotherapy was lying in bed with eyes uprolled , and cold and clamy skin with  no response to command. I measured  her blood pressure ,took  RBS  reading which was within normal limits History taking revealed that she had loose stools a day before,I immediately asked my neighbour to prepare ORS .We administered her some sips of ORS by Katori and spoon,  she drank almost half Katori and within few minutes her eyes became normal and she started responding to  commands. Thereafter nebulization was done in view of chest congestion following which her SPO2 improved and immediately she was referred to a tertiary care centre for further management.

That is how one life was saved just by following the core steps of emergency care, i.e Airway, Breathing and Circulation .This incidence definitely motivated me to do better  not only in academics but  in  clinical part also. Because the word Doctor before our names  reflects not only a teacher  who teaches doctors but a  Saviour  of Life   who can took back the soul of a dying person.

Take home message :Application of Primary health care principles such as ORS in this case can save someone’s life and bring smile to someone’s face.

Thank you for taking a moment to read this.
