WISHFUL SERVING OF COMMUNITY

WISHFUL SERVING OF COMMUNITY

Spread the love

My journey as a community medicine doctor has been both rewarding and challenging, shaped by unique experiences that have deepened my commitment to public health. Initially, I was drawn to this field by a desire to address health disparities and improve the well-being of underserved populations. However, the path has not been without its hurdles. It all started on 11 September 2023 when I just placing my footsteps into the vast world of this prestigious field….as a young medico with an enthusiastic heart and coming from a big city, inside I was never ever enthralled or excited about the city life but what always attracted me was suburban areas, villages and outskirts of cities…where people were still ignorant but yet innocent.

One of the primary challenges I faced was navigating the complexities of public understanding. Working in communities with limited access to healthcare often meant advocating for patients in systems that were not designed to meet their needs. This required resilience, creativity, and a collaborative spirit. So as a community medicine enthusiast I started serving for community at a very basic level. While conducting field visits, I saw the real rural India, one that remains untouched…by high profile super specialization medicos in cities.

What touched me deeply was their interaction, their enthusiasm to learn about illnesses and cure and to my delight my extroverted personality helped me out in this. It was indeed my childhood dream to serve as inspiration for masses

It was here that I could make most vulnerable population aware of medicines, health programmes from which they could benefit and defy they thoughts stuck on any superstitions.

Despite these challenges, the advantages of being a community medicine doctor are profound. Building long-term relationships with patients allows me to understand their cultural contexts and health behaviours, fostering trust and effective care. Witnessing the impact of preventive measures and education on community health outcomes is incredibly fulfilling. For instance, implementing vaccination drives and health education workshops has not only improved health metrics but also empowered community members to take charge of their health.

My experiences have also reinforced the importance of adaptability. Each community is unique, and what works in one setting may not work in another. This adaptability has taught me valuable lessons in cultural competence and the need for tailored health interventions.

Reflecting on my journey, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a community medicine doctor. The challenges have shaped my resilience, while the successes have inspired me to continue advocating for health equity. Ultimately, my experiences have not only enriched my professional life but have also profoundly influenced my personal values, driving my passion for making a difference in the lives of others.
